Welcome ladies to the first round results where we would normally have an elimination.
We'll start off by critiquing all of the photos this round.
Angelina
Christian: Angie. Baby. I wish you were surrounded by all your beautiful ethnic babies - I don't.
OK, so as a potential photo, I can see it. Angelina is a statuesque pillar of feminine beauty and I am not sure this photo captures her as the full package I know her to be. She's kind of all scrunched up here. That being said we are getting some FIERCEā¢ leg action here and we do get the idea that she is long and lean. Love the no shoe option, flawless. Kind of giving the standard AJ bitch-face. Your challenge this game will be to not bore me with SAJBF - Standard Angelina Jolie Bitch Face. But for now I'll take it. Lastly, not a lot of fashion to go on here. I mean it's essentially the little black dress, kind of yawns, coupled with no accouterments and I'm a skosh bored darling.
I do think you have great potential though. Werk it out.
Portia: Look at those legs!! This shot definitely accentuates your long legs and your amazing bone structure in your face. You definitely pull off the serious face and look fierce!!!! I agree with Christian, the main thing you'll have to be conscious of this season is to not over do the serious face. Don't get me wrong, Angelina is fierce as hell and there will definitely be themes and shots that the face will work in your favor but hopefully we can see some versatility as well! Over all it was a good choice by you!
Koda: We asked to show us who you were with this shot and I feel like you've done that. You're exuding strength and confidence, but with a little sex appeal while you're at it. For the first shot, I wish we could see more of your body, but at least we get to see a lot of your legs, so that's always a plus. I'm not sure this will be a shot I remember in the future, as it lacks a complete wow factor, but this is a solid submission and has me feeling like you'll be one of the models to watch this season.
Jensen: I'm not an Angelina fan but as far as photo shoots go, she's one of the best and you'll be the one to beat for sure. One thing to watch in the future is that I HATE bare feet. I am only one judge lol but they are gross and ugly and sometimes if they're bad enough they'll ruin the whole picture. Good thing for you that the rest of this picture is so amazing that that ugly foot in front isn't killing me lol Love the long legs, they just go on forever. And the way you are sitting in that chair, you're owning this picture and the direct contact with the camera and your expression. This is amazing.
Jenna: I think you look very regal in this photo. I like the confidence that you exude. I think the angle of the shot as a whole is a bit off to me, and since you have such strong features, I'd like to see your hair not so tightly pulled back, though it does help to show the beauty you posses otherwise. I think this is a great way to kick off the game, and I'm sure that you will continue to blow us away, seeing that you have so many facets of yourself to share. Overall, good work.
Blake
Portia: This is a decent shot, it shows Blake's lovable innocent side! With that being said, it is also a little standard to me and I was hoping to see something a little more risky! You look great, your hair looks great, amazing smile, I'm looking forward to see what you are capable of this season!!
Koda: There's a slight quality issue with the photo, but it's not that bad, so probably won't be that big of a deal this round. It's a fun, flirty little shot and I can definitely see a story behind this shot. My problem lies with the modeling content of the shot. It's a nice photo, but not sure if it's the strongest competition photo you can submit. It doesn't have the greatest impact and the modeling/posing itself could have been a bit better. However, still a nice shot to start with.
Christian: Blake baby. I'm going to be honest - you were terrible in Green Lantern.
OK, now this shoot. To be honest I agree with the other judges. This is a bit safe. A little too J. Crew perhaps. I would like to see you push fashion a bit harder and not go for the easy stuff. Remember we need to see potential, and I see a potential actress here, not model.
Jensen: I'm going to remember you only because you're Blake lol I mean, this photo is cute. I personally know you can do better. I think you're showing us the real you though, the cute flirty Blake. But from here on out, try to bring out the Blake I know exists.
Jenna: I think you look very wholesome and girl-next-door. This photo is a bit commercial to me, but it works for this challenge, as it gives us a good look at what you have to offer. I like your pose and your overall surroundings. I also like your connection to to the camera, and altogether I think this is a solid photo.
Cate
Christian: Cate - are you speaking Elvish to that statue? Are you saying "No I'm too shy to take an actual modeling shot" to him?
I will give you this, you're right that she tells a story in every shot and is emotive. Agreed.
That's where we stop agreeing. By saying you didn't want to waste a shot is succeeding in wasting my time. You know you aren't going home on this first shoot so you kind of just winged it. Tsk tsk Ms Blanchett. So, on to the photo. I kind of hate everything about it. I think your face is obscured way too much and the shadow from the bust is too pronounced and dark. The statue bust is much too large and is distracting to you - who should be the star. Ironically I am kind of loving the statue's sarong more than your outfit, which looks like old can pull tabs. I like feminine sexy Cate Blanchett and here you are trying to pull of the androgynous Tilda Swinton look - which is not your best potential.
But then we wouldn't want you to waste your time or photos on trying to impress the judges right out of the gate.
Portia: I have mixed feelings about this shot. When I first looked at it, I liked it but then after I look at it longer I am not as sure. I wish we would have seen more of your body in this first shot. We want to see your potential and what to expect this season so I would have love to see MORE Cate. I also think your outfit looks a little "old"..something my grandma might wear on New Years. On a positive note, you have amazing bone structure and your skin looks flawless here. Definitely good quality. Don't play it so safe next time, good luck this season!
Koda: Yeah, I've submitted a shot before cause I didn't want to "waste" a photo I liked on that particular shoot. However, it's not exactly the best thing to tell the judges. You're basically giving the judges permission to not like the shot cause by your own admission, it's not the best you could have done. It's a fairly nice profile shot, but I'm not the biggest fan of your expression (mainly around your mouth). I do really like what you're wearing and you have a very nice jawline on display here. Your hair is also looking nice, too. Not really the most impactful and not exactly the strongest, but you already know that.
Jensen: I barely read the blurbs unless necessary so I didn't know what the other judges were talking about at first. I love profile shots, but the shadow from the statue makes your nose look odd. Other than that, you're modeling with your face and that's important here.
Jenna: I, too have differing emotions on this submission. I love the lighting and I think your face stands out and is showcased well. I don't particularly care for the fact that you seem to be sharing the spotlight with the statue. I also wish we could see more of your body, but all things considered, I think that this works for what it is. I think it's a bit edgy and daring, and for that I do take a liking to it.
Cher
Christian: Cher honey, goddess, diva, it's so nice to see you on stage.
It's unfortunate that you apparently got caught in the theater curtains right before this shoot. I think the shot might be pulled out a bit too much and its all a bit monochromatic so we aren't getting a ton to go from here. I think the curtains dress is just OK. Maybe without the fur coat you really would have made me believe in life after this shoot but for now I am just wishing I could turn back time. The hair is very drag queen/Moulin Rouge - which is standard fare for Cher. Cher baby you are going to have to work hard to not go all costumey and gay fantasy all season - we are going to need range, and this shot did little to assuage that worry. You do look like you are in great, vibrant health and I like the lines you are making - but another line you should make is to the dressing room to get rid of that frock.
Kisses, you inspired me to come out.
Koda: Yeah, your dress does have the same color and the texture looks like curtains, but I don't mind the dress. There's a lightness and flow to the fabric itself that keeps it from looking like you're wearing the curtains out on stage. This shot is a little too small for my tastes because it's a full-body shot. I feel like smaller pictures are meant for tight shots that show only part of the model while large shots are meant for full-body shots so we can see all the detail. I do like your posing and it's an interesting shot. I feel like seeing this from you, we know that if nothing else, good or bad, you'll at least be interesting.
Jensen: This is gorgeous!I really love the pose and expression. You're not being over the top and holding your own. Very high fashion. You've done very well.
Jenna: I think you are working it in this photo. Being in your element on that theatre stage suites you well. I feel like this photo kind of swallows you up though. I wish I wasn't so distracted by all the other components, and that you were featured more closely. I, do however, think your pose is great, and you look like the true diva you are, so I think you are showing us your honest persona, and I appreciate that.
Portia: I am surprised, I actually really like this. I wasn't sure how you would do with Cher but this was a really good choice. It'll be interesting to see how you do being an older model compared to the rest of the cast. I'm not sure how I feel about the hair but overall I think this was a good pick this round!
Christina
Koda: I've seen Christina played a couple times before, so it's always nice to see a shot I haven't seen before. I won't ever penalize you if you play a shot that's been used in another game since that's those games and this is different. However, I do appreciate seeing new things. Especially when it's a glamour shot that's done well. I love your hair in this shot and the fact that it's draped over one eye is a nice touch. This shot's also really strong as a black and white shot. I'm imagining this in color and I feel it loses some drama (although in color, your lips and accessories could really pop, so it's a little bit of a trade-off). I can't really think of anything negative to say here. It's a really good start from you.
Christian: Well gurl, you made me like Xtina. And this bitch is not an Xtina fan. This is what I want to see from you all the time. Beautiful, simple, elegant, poised and not overdone. Most importantly its not that weird bathing suit and tights thing you have been trying for a while. If this is the potential from you for the season, then count me a fan.
Except of your singing. Or personality.
Jensen: This bitch IS an Xtina fan <3 I love everything about this photo. It's perfect and I have nothing bad to say at all.
Jenna: I think this photo shows pure elegance and sophistication. I really like that how tightly shot your face is here, while still giving us a nice pose, and playing to the camera. I think the Black and White aspect adds to the overall drama of the photo, and I like the how the light plays, as well. I think this is a very strong photo, Christina. Great job.
Portia: I love this Christina! I think this is a very mature and elegant photo of you. I love your face and the black and white really suits well for this shot. I don't have tons to say but if you continue to make submissions like this throughout the game then you'll definitely do well!
Delta
Christian: Hi Delta baby, love you, lov...who am I kidding I have no idea who you are. You are cute as a button though.
Unfortunately cute is only good for baby pageants. This is Top Model. Here is what I think of your shot:
So as a first impression shot, I am worried. But I see you're a pretty gal, so I am hoping you can find more non-Sears catalogue commercial. Good luck puddin'.
Koda: It's not my favorite shot since it lacks in a wow factor. However, there are some positives to this shot. You hair and your face look damn good. I'm normally not the biggest fan of basic smiling shots since they normally look forced or can create some awkward lines. However, here, your face just lights up. Your hair is done really nicely and you have a fantastic commercial look. It's just a bit boring in the end.
Jensen: I agree, there's no wow factor. But you're gorgeous and you're modeling. It's very commercial but it's still a good modeling photo. Very nice! Just not extraordinary.
Jenna: I have to echo the sentiments of all my fellow judges here, and say that while I like this photo, I think it's a bit too bland and commercial for me. You look very cute, effortless, and I like the flair your pose with your arm gives, but I think that there isn't much here that is memorable. Great effort, though.
Portia: I'll start off by saying you look stunning in this shot and the quality is great. I am going to criticize you on the same thing I said to Blake..and that is that it's just a little simplistic and boring. I think this was a good round to take risks! So this is just okay for me but you're beautiful so I think you definitely have potential.
Emma
Christian: I really appreciate you went with your gut and took a risk out of the gate. Some people turned in shite. This shows me you have potential all season, potential to take chances and wow me. I'm intrigued.
Unfortunately this shot is Avada Kedavra for me. I had really hoped you had chosen the other one. This shot makes you look dowdy and old like the mean grandmother from Flowers in the Attic meets that horrible Lena Dunham from Girls. I just don't love the hair or the outfit. You are giving good face though and I know you are going to finish in the Gryffindor house of modeling. Did that work?
Koda: The quality is just very slightly off to me, but it actually had to be pointed out to me, so I definitely won't hold it against you since I wouldn't have known otherwise. I could also do without the white box framing your shot, but since it's completely even on all sides and isn't just poor cropping, I can deal with it. All that said, this is a very lovely shot. I looked at your samples this round and you made the right choice. We get to see some of your back and the back tends to be a great spot to feature on most women. I love what you've done with your hair here and your expression definitely sets the vibe for the shot. I'm really liking this as an intro shot to Emma Watson.
Jensen: For me the quality seems like it's meant to be that way. I'm not sure that it was but if we're looking at this picture sort of like a painting almost, it fits. I love the innocence in your expression and the over the shoulder look. I love your back. I know you have a lot of potential and I think this is a nice way to start the game.
Jenna: I think you look very classy in this shot. I like the expression your giving, and I feel the emotion in and behind your eyes. I really like your pose and the over the shoulder, too. I think the outfit compliments this photo as a whole, and really rounds everything out. Great work, I'm looking forward to seeing what else you bring since I think you've began in an excellent fashion.
Portia: I will start off by saying I love Emma and this submission shows why. I love the elegance here and your skin looks flawless. I agree with Koda, I think you could have done without the border but overall it was a great choice. I think you have a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing what you bring to this competition.
Jennifer
Koda: This is a pretty nice get-to-know-you shot. We get to see your body very well, but not in a standard "standing straight up" shot. What could have made this shot better: if we got to see all of your legs. But, what can you do. I love your jacket. Love how it fades into different shades of purple, love the structure, and love the added fashion element it gives to the shot. That's not my favorite hairstyle for JLaw, but your face is looking pretty nice here.
Jensen: I love the body. I do not like the head. Maybe because of the angle, the expression, the lack of neck, I don't know. But the head throws me off. The body is nice, and it's a nice pose. Overall, this might be too nice, but you're showing potential.
Jenna: I like what you're showing us here. I like the different colors, I think they suit everything in this photo well. I also like your facial expression, too. I think the pose is nice and different and I like the angles that your body is creating. I look forward to seeing what you continue to bring to us because I think that is a great start for you, Jennifer.
Portia: I completely agree with Koda, I love how we see your body but it's not too simplistic. I love your jacket and your serious face. You may give Angelina a good running for the serious face look. This was an excellent choice, well done!
Christian: JLAW, OMFG lets be BFF.
I love it. I like the bating suit, leather jacket in a Hunger Games field look.
F-I-E-R-C-E.
I disagree with Jensen, I think your head is giving us total model realness. I think you are one of the few that actually got the judges excited about potential. Which was the point.
District 12 weeps.
Kirsten
Koda: I'm typing this before Christian has finished his critique and while I'm sure he'll be done and posted before me, I am making this without seeing what he's saying. I only know it's going to be harsh. I don't hate this photo like he does. It's not my favorite, but you won't find that kind of venom coming from me this round. I feel a bit of an intensity coming from you here and I think that mainly has to do with your eye makeup and the styling of your eyebrow. There's something off about the expression on your face, though. It feels like a contradiction of emotions. The posing and your eyes suggest a fierceness and intensity that your mouth undermines. I do like your hair in this shot, but not the biggest fan of your giant leather rose.
Jensen: I'm not looking forward to what Christian has to say then lol This photo is gorgeous. You're fierce and the expression and pose are owning this photo. There's absolutely nothing negative to say about this photo and anyone who "hates" it, might need to see a psychiatrist! lol
Jenna: This photo is the epitome of old Hollywood glamour. I think the Black and White works wonderfully and I think your facial expression exudes a wonderful fierce nature, all it's own. I love how your hand is draped, and the styling of your hair is very pretty. Your eyes pierce the camera and I love that. Fantastic work, I think you did great!
Portia: I actually like this Kirsten! It doesn't make me say "wow" but I think it's still a good shot of you! I do wish we could see more of your body but oh well. I also think the black and white works well for you here. Good choice Kirsten.
Christian: Well then book me at the closest shrink.
I don't think there is anything old Hollywood glamour about this. I think it's Old Glamour Shots. It just looks horribly dated to me. Like a senior photo from 1986. Black and white is saving you here because I bet the dress is a "jewel tone". I really don't like the way your hair obscures your one eye and it makes it hard to tell if your eye is even open. I find it pretty ironic that several of my co-judges dinged others for this but on you it's suddenly flawless?
Also it looks like you are leaning on a giant skin blob. Your skin looks fresh and your body (what we can see of it) is in kickin' shape, but for me this photo is just a big turn off.
Milla
Koda: This shot is definitely different and different is almost always a good thing for me. I don't know what to make of this shot; it is just so damn weird. We get to see all of your body here, but a lot of the posing is strange. Your legs look a bit awkward, you have strange position for your arms (especially with your action in the shot), and your outfit makes little-to-no sense to me. However, I find myself liking that this shot is so crazy. Makes me feel like you will not bore us this competition and shows me that you're definitely willing to take risks and that'll get your brownie points with me.
Jensen: I like open ended shots because you can go anywhere with them. Your pose is strange only because you look like you're about to topple over and your expression fits with that, you look like you're having a hard time holding this pose and that's bad. You need to always look flawless. That aside, this is the most eye catching photo submitted. Everyone will remember this and your legs and arms are awesome. Just remember to always own your poses and you'll be good. You have great potential so no worries.
Jenna: This photo is memorable, that's for sure. Great way to jump start things, Milla. I really like your setting and all the props, and I think that everything works well in tandem. I think this shot almost has a bit of a futuristic vibe to me, and I appreciate how different it is. Be careful with your expression, though, because it looks a bit blank. Your pose is great, and I love your outfit. Overall, this is a strong photo. Great job!
Portia: When I first looked at this photo I was like, what the..... But I love how unique it is. You took a risk an I LOVE that. It's a little strange but I will take risky over safe any day. Your body looks grace and your bone structure in your face is amazing. I love this pick, great job!!!
Christian: OK Lelu Dallas lets do this...
So best believes this bitch loves some alt avant garde shit. I'm a McQueen disciple, so...
All that being said I think this photo is just toooo much. If this were International Prop Model maybe. It's just all too distracting, Model shots should be about the model, Every critique has talked about all the stuff in your photo and we should just be talking about you. I think the fashion is divine and you look great. I just am going to caution you on busy shots like this. It feels like the only thing this diner doesn't serve is editing.
Rihanna
Koda: I was a bit nervous for you when you chose Rihanna since she's not had my favorite portfolio from what I've seen in other games. However, if this is the type of shots we can expect to see from you, then I am excited to have you in the game. If it was in my rules that judges could give the same score to two models, you and another model I have in mind would both be getting 10s this round. Instead, I'm going to have to make a difficult decision and figure out which one of your two to score higher. You have great posing here, the dress is fantastic, you look so intense, *a million other compliments*. Great start.
Jensen: This is almost perfect. The pose, the styling the high fashion element, it's all brilliant. I love the setting. I also love profile shots. What keeps it from being perfect is the quality and your face. I don't like the angry expression. It doesn't work with this overall photo. Work the face and we'll be fine in the future.
Jenna: This encompasses everything you wanted to showcase, and more. I think the edginess of this works fabulously. I love the setting, outfit, pose, all of it is excellent. Be careful of your expressions, in the future, since they can set the tone for the photo as a whole. I don't think it's detracting much from this shot, though. Terrific work, Rihanna. I think you've set the standard high.
Portia: Love love love everything about this. I love your angry expression and the dress, it almost tells a story. The setting and everything it definitely helps is get to know you and what you're capable of. This may be my favorite shot this round, well done!
Christian: Flaw-less.
Plain and simple. I'm gonna keep beating that dead horse. This is damn near perfection.
Makes me want to hit Chris Brown it's so good, Now come on come on. Now you MIGHT be bad but your PERFECTLY good at it.
Zhang
Koda: This shot is a bit too large for me (height is 1000 pixels) as I have to scroll to see all of the shot. You actually could have cropped part of the top out and you wouldn't have lost anything. The quality is also slightly off here, but I've seen worse. You have a great, standard high fashion pose here. The dress is also nice. It has some interesting elements to it, which is nice. A lot of times in these shots, we can get basic, boring fashion, but this has enough of a twist to it. You look well put-together here, but I also feel like you could have more to show us. I feel like you held back a bit here.
Jensen: It's only a tad too large for me, I can almost see the whole picture at once, but cropping would have been better because you're only taking up half the image. If the setting was what made this photo, then that would be good, but the setting doesn't matter here except that it's pretty to look at. I'm a fan of this pose. I love the broken look for the top and then the crossed leg for the bottom. This is how to hold a pose and look comfortable while doing it. I really like this. Just try to remember that cropping makes things better. The quality is not good, the lighting a bit too much, but otherwise, this is a nice start.
Jenna: I absolutely love your pose here. It's what catches my eye, right off the bat. I think your outfit is also eye-catching, and I love your soft makeup. I wish your expression was a bit more fierce, as that pose is. I like the setting, but the light glare in the background is a bit off-putting. I also wish your face was a bit more closer to the camera, but overall I think this is an excellent photo.
Portia: I have mixed feelings about this. I think you're pose is great and you look wonderful but I think the setting swallows you. I wish you were a little closer, my attention went to the room instead of YOU. Besides that I like this shot. I think this was an okay choice from you.
Christian: I'm going to be real honest here...
I'm a little over the "asian model" in these games trend - because every judge seems to fawn over them and I just don't get it. I think the shot is boring and not composed well. You look beautiful and the fashion is...fine. I agree with the judges that this could have been cropped better but I am not sure that would have made me like it a ton more. My challenge to you is to change my mind on asian models, I have yet to see a FUN photo from one. They are all in the camp of serious and couture, so...challenge given.
