Welcome ladies to the eighth round critiques. This round, we wanted you to show up the subtle differences between two close emotions.
Let's see how you all did.
Team Kirsten
Emma - Carefree
Koda: Emma, you always put a lot of thought into your shots and their descriptions and it shows. I like this pairing between the both of you. Your roles definitely fit the both of you. Kirsten, I think you're taking a huge risk with this shot. The darker color palette along with all of the shadows could work against you with certain judges in these games. However, I love it. There's a nice edge to the shot that is wonderful. Emma, your pose is definitely carefree and I love your dress. Dresses like that are meant to have movement and I love that you're giving that to us. I do have a very small problem with your expression, though. There's a little bit of tenseness in the photo through your have and neck as if you're thinking a bit too much, that keeps it from being completely carefree. Overall, though, both of you have shots with great visual impact and I love the staging in both. Good work.
Jenna: This is a gorgeous shot, Emma. Your flowing gown really captures the carefree emotion and element you were going for. The styling here is excellent and I really like your pose, as well. The crazed nature of everything going on around you works nicely, and you still look gorgeous and put together. Great job here!
Jensen: This is really gorgeous and really works with your emotion. Carefree, you look amazing and just not a care in the world. I love the movement in this shot and the emotion and setting.
Portia: There is the Emma that I love! Your submission this round definitely shows us that we made the right decision in keeping you last round. I love the emotion you chose and how it is different than the standard emotions such as happy, sad, frustrated ect. I can really see your emotion here, you look so soft and free here even though everything around you is a mess. Well done!
Kirsten - Reckless
Koda: Emma, you always put a lot of thought into your shots and their descriptions and it shows. I like this pairing between the both of you. Your roles definitely fit the both of you. Kirsten, I think you're taking a huge risk with this shot. The darker color palette along with all of the shadows could work against you with certain judges in these games. However, I love it. Overall, though, both of you have shots with great visual impact and I love the staging in both. Good work.
Jenna: This is fantastic, Kirsten. I have to say this is a completely different side of you than we have previously seen. I love how raw and dark the emotions being portrayed here are. I think the darkness in the photo adds to the feel of what is going on and I like that, as well. The setting with the car wreckage behind you gives us 'Reckless' perfectly, and the despair in your expression and body positioning are excellent. I love the contrast of your skin color against the darkness, as well. You did a superb job here!
Jensen: WOW I really love this. While Emma's clutter is more spaced out, your clutter is surrounding you, almost swallowing you whole, yet you stand out beautifully. Hers is high fashion/commercial, while yours is high fashion/editorial. And you look like you've crawled out of that car after going into the water, so reckless is definitely seen here. I am really in love with this photo, despite the overpowering shadows
Portia: I love this Kirsten! Another strong submission from you! Everything about this shot nails your emotion perfectly. The car accident..the "wreck" definitely shows your recklessness. Even though you aren't standing up going crazy and acting reckless in the shot, you can see that this is the aftermath of reckless behavior. I love it. Great job!
Team Cate
Cate - Greedy
Koda: It's helping me to see both of these photos side-by-side. I like that these photos could easily go together in a Pairing It Up shoot (done mainly in the ANTM Celebrity series) and that may not be a requirement of this shoot, but is a nice bonus touch. Cate, I feel like the expression is just slightly off for me, but I love the intensity in both of your eyes and I feel each one portrays your given emotion well. I love the body language both of you have and the contrasting, yet complimenting color palettes of the two shots. Overall, I feel the two of you both did a really good job this round together.
Jenna: Cate, this is absolutely exquisite. The entire coloration of the whole shot screams "Greed" to me. All of the Gold compliments everything so well, and I love the touch of all the jewelry surrounding you. It really helps to emphasize things altogether. I think you look dazzling, and your expression really helps to drive the photo. I think everything here is pure opulence, and you did an excellent job!
Jensen: I totally agree with the ladies before me. You look divine. There's something very off about your expression/mouth. I can't explain it. I saw the same thing in a photo in another game where the mouth looks like that and I just don't know how to explain what's wrong. Other than that, this is really good and matches up with Greed and your partner.
Portia: I really like this Cate. I love your portrayal of Greed. I can definitely see it here! Everything from the jewelery surrounding you, having a piece of jewelry in your mouth, and your eyes look like you are craving more. Aside from you nailing your emotion, you look great. I love love your dress and love the hair! Well done Cate
Milla - Obsessive
Koda: It's helping me to see both of these photos side-by-side. I like that these photos could easily go together in a Pairing It Up shoot (done mainly in the ANTM Celebrity series) and that may not be a requirement of this shoot, but is a nice bonus touch. Jenna: You look absolutely fantastic here, Milla. Your pose, hair and makeup, and styling here are stunning. I have to admit that I can't see obsessive here, as much as I can see the emotion in some others' shots, but I do sort of see where you were going with this. I think that your props really carry the theme here. I think that the excess of letters and postcards surrounding you and the magnifying glass you're holding help to enhance the overall characteristics of the photo. Altogether, I really like what you've shown to us, so terrific job!
Jensen: I like this a lot. You can totally see the obsessiveness of your actions and setting. The cards and postcards and the magnifying glass, maybe you're searching for a clue to where all the jewels have gone lol You look amazing!! I really like this a lot.
Portia: At first I was having trouble seeing obsessive here but the longer I looked at it, I really started to appreciate the creativity here. Your obsessiveness may not be as obvious here but once you see it it is brilliant. I love your modeling here too. You look amazing. Good job, you should definitely be safe this round with this submission!!
The Remaining
Jennifer - Boredom
Koda: Something's just not clicking for me with these shots. I'm not sure if either you two misinterpreted the shoot or if I'm just personally misinterpreting what you two are going for here. The shoot was meant for players to show the fine line between two similar emotions and I personally don't make the closest connection between Boredom and Arrogance. That said, both of you definitely embody your chosen emotion. JLaw, you've done it in a very glamorous manner here. I feel like your shot just oozes class and its a wonderful basic headshot. Rihanna, I do love your styling and your posing, but have a bit of an issue with the quality on a couple levels. The pixelation is a bit off, causing it to be a blurry. Also, the staging and overall quality of the shoot itself has it feeling a bit like an amateur shot.
Jenna: I think that you look alluring here. I like the simplicity of the shot, and I see boredom in your expression. The issue for me is that I feel like this isn't very memorable. Otherwise, I really like the lines going on, and you look very chic.
Jensen: I do see boredom here. Your shot is pretty to look at. Modeling wise, I want to love it because the pose and the styling and the modeling is all there, but the expression ruins it, but then I think, but that's the expression she's going for. So it's hard to decide how I feel completely lol I do like this though.
Portia: I have mixed feelings about this shot. I definitely can see the boredom here but I also think "curious" would have been a good emotion as well. Regardless, I CAN see your emotion here. I am not sure if it as strong as some of the others I have seen. I think the black and white goes well with your emotion..the lack of color can be seen as boring so it fits there! Problem is we are getting down to the end where all of the models are giving good submissions. This isn't one of my favorites but I also think you did what you were told and did okay!
Rihanna - Arrogant
Koda: Something's just not clicking for me with these shots. I'm not sure if either you two misinterpreted the shoot or if I'm just personally misinterpreting what you two are going for here. The shoot was meant for players to show the fine line between two similar emotions and I personally don't make the closest connection between Boredom and Arrogance. Also, the staging and overall quality of the shoot itself has it feeling a bit like an amateur shot.
Jenna: I have to be honest here when I say that usually I think your photos are outstanding, but this really misses the mark for me. Other than your expression working to your advantage to portray what you were going for, the rest of the shot really doesn't do a whole lot for me when stacked up to some of the others. I'm sorry, Rihanna. I do, however think you have an interesting looking outfit, and your hair and makeup are very nice. I also think you pose work nicely here.
Jensen: You are fierce for sure, and your arrogance is top notch in this photo. I've read why you felt that boredom and arrogance are a close connection, but..........I don't feel it. I would put Arrogance in the Aggressiveness section, close to the side of Optimism, personally. On top of not sure how the connection goes, the quality of this photo is really bad Which sucks because it's probably one of your best shots to date.
Portia: We will start with the good and say that I DO see the arrogance here. You have that bitchy look to you..that girl I would hate passing in the hallways. The only thing I do not like is the quality here at all. We are getting to the end of the competition and everyone is submitting amazing shots so something as simple as quality is extremely important at this stage of the game.
Let's see how you all did.
